SURGE IN ACCIDENTS CONTINUES: Three accidents reported within 12 hours raise concerns

Self accidents occurred at Porvorim and Morjim; head-on collision at Quepem

Three accidents
occurred in various parts of Goa within 12 hours over the weekend, raising
concerns over the continuing road accidents in Goa. The first accident took
place at Porvorim on Friday late Friday night. The other two accidents were
reported at Quepem and Morjim on Saturday morning.  The Porvorim and Morjim ones were
self-accidents whereas, the Quepem accident was a head-on collision. Luckily no
casualties were reported.

PORVORIM: In the Porvorim
accident, a taxi veered off road and rammed into a culvert late Friday night.
The taxi was ferrying a passenger. According to sources, the driver is
suspected to have fallen asleep. This led to his vehicle going out of control. According
to Porvorim Police, the tourist passenger sustained leg injuries and was
immediately shifted to Goa Medical College hospital, Bambolim.

QUEPEM: On Saturday
morning at around 6 am, a Karnataka register truck collided with a car and
dragged the car several meters after hitting it. The accident occurred at Quepem.
The truck was on the wrong side of the road and rammed into the car head-on.
The car was totally damaged and the driver sustained major injuries. He was
immediately taken to the Quepem Hospital for treatment. The driver of the lorry
absconded from the spot after the collision.

MORJIM:  A speeding rent-a-car overturned on the main
road at Dabholkar Wada, Morjim on Saturday morning. All the occupants escaped
unharmed. According to locals, the driver was under the influence of alcohol.
Since the driver was in an inebriated state he lost control of the vehicle leading
to a self-accident.
