VALPOI: The repair work of the Government High School building at Surla finally began on Tuesday following protests from parents and students.
It may be recalled that the locals had been protesting over the incomplete building and they felt that the roof height was not according to the guidelines as the rain water seeped through the walls and the roof. Students were inconvenienced as the work was not satisfactory due to which rainwater entered the classroom.  Since last year, the villagers have been demanding that the building be repaired immediately as the existing building was not spacious enough to accommodate all students. The students boycotted classes for four days to draw the attention of the authorities.  Finally, on Tuesday, the work began wherein the roof of the school building will be repaired on priority basis, Panch Suryakant Gaonkar informed.
He further stated that this was possible only due to efforts of the villagers and students to get the work done.
