MARGAO: The sudden transfer of Khushalidas Gaonkar, the Secretary of the Raia village panchayat, has raised eyebrows of many in the village, and left them wondering why.
As per the orders issued by Directorate of Panchayats, Gaonkar will be posted in the Block Development Office at Salcete, and he has been replaced by Nilesh Shirodkar.
Shiordkar, who is also the panchayat secretary of village panchayat of Camorlim, will hold additional charge of village panchayat Raia, as he has already taken charge on Thursday.
Sources said that Khushalidas Gaonkar was earlier holding charge of village panchayat Curtorim before he was transferred to Raia. He served Raia panchayat for nearly one year.
However, his transfer has come as a surprise to the villagers, considering that he has been relieved from the post with immediate effect. It is not just the villagers, but few of the panch members are also in shock after they heard about the transfer of the panchayat secretary as the panchayat will be conducting their next gram sabha meeting on October 15.
Rosario Fernandes, a villager told O Heraldo that there must be some serious reason for the immediate transfer of the panchayat secretary; however, there it should not hamper the administrative works of the panchayat.
“We heard that the new secretary has already taken charge of the office and hence, we hope everything goes smoothly in the coming days,” he added.
