The department’s circular was issued on Monday, two days after the Sports department withdrew the controversial asana from the yoga sessions to be organized by an independent group.
Education officials said the department never made the session compulsory for schools; however, intuitions are at liberty to hold yoga camps at taluka level or at their campuses. Herald was the first to report that some schools have shown interest in holding yoga sessions, including Suryamanaskar, at their premises.
Health department will also conduct the exercise for its staff at primary health centres, urban health centres and community health centres on June 21.
Diocesan Society of Education, besides a few local groups, had objected to students performing Suryanamaskar.
