Sushant, Sujata are chief, deputy of Curchorem civic body

CURCHOREM: Sushant Naik has been elected as chairperson and Sujata Naik as vice chairperson of Curchorem-Cacora Municipal Council (CCMC) at a meeting held on Thursday.

CURCHOREM:  Sushant Naik has been elected as chairperson and Sujata Naik as vice chairperson of Curchorem-Cacora Municipal Council (CCMC) at a meeting held on Thursday.
In a fourteen-member council, eleven councillors voted in favour of Sushant and Sujata while Shrikant Gaonkar and Aprna Prabhudessai polled two votes each for the post of chairperson and vice chairperson, respectively.
Earlier, Chief Officer of Sanguem Municipal Council Pramod Desai, the presiding officer, gave 15 minutes time to withdraw the nominations. As no nomination was withdrawn, the election was conducted by secret ballot and later after counting the ballots, Desai declared the results in the presence of CCMC Chief Officer Sagun Velip. 
Councillor Balkarishna Uttam Hodarkar (Pinty) did not attend the meeting due to death of his father Uttam on Thursday early morning.
After the election, Curchorem MLA Nilesh Cabral congratulated Sushant and Sujata and urged them to work in the interest of the people and cooperate to develop the town of Curchorem.  
Meanwhile, Quepem Municipal Council in a special drive held on Wednesday removed illegal kiosks and other illegal encroachment from Tilamol market. 
Speaking to Herald Chairperson Filu D’Costa said that illegal encroachments have been removed from the Tilamol market and the same drive will continue.
 in Quepem town in order to clear the footpaths and passages.
