Suspected Dengue cases: Sites at Vasco inspected

VASCO: In view of the rise in suspected dengue cases, the Core Committee of the State Task Force for the Control of Vector-Borne Diseases held a joint inspection of sites in Vaddem and New Vaddem, here.

During the inspection, it found lapses in compliance with various acts and rules of the Labour Department and violations of conditions laid down in NOCs and licenses issued by Mormugao Municipal Council and the Urban Health Centre.

The inspection was carried out to take stock of the ground situation of the increase in suspected dengue cases. According to a GOACAN press release, the team led by Dr Kalpana Mahatme, State Programme Officer NVBDCP and Roland Martins GOACAN Co-ordinator had representatives from the offices of the Mormugao Municipal Council, Labour Department, PWD, WRD, DHS and Taluka Mamlatdar.

Before visiting the two building construction sites and some residential areas, Dr Rashmi Khandeparkar, Vasco UHC Health Officer briefed the team on the constraints faced by the staff undertaking the spraying of anti-larval chemicals, fogging and identifying breeding sites.

During the site inspection, the team noticed that the advisory issued to control vector-borne diseases was not followed due to lack of proper coordination by the site supervisors at the building construction sites. In residential areas, it was noticed that the households failed to check the stagnation of water thereby allowing mosquitoes to breed.

A detailed report of the observations at the site inspection and related recommendations will be submitted by the Core Committee to various government agencies at the State and District levels. An action plan based on the recommendations of the site inspection will be drawn up to be implemented in July, which is observed as an Anti-Dengue Month.
