Suspected gang rivalry kills one in St Cruz

The once volatile area of ST Cruz witnessed a return of violence with a major shootout, which missed the intended target and accidentally killed a member of the gang involved in the firing. Around 10 persons attacked the house of Imran Bepari and started firing. During the firing one Sonu Yadav, who was from the gang got killed. The father of Imran Bepari informed that his son was attacked in the past, though they were not as brazen and audacious as this. Describing the incident the senior Bepari said that an armed gang of masked men entered their house, damaged one CCTV camera and parked cars, and two-wheelers. He said that the gang members were carrying a koita, knives, and a gun.

Locals suspect that the violence is a result of gang rivalry. However, the police have been tightlipped on this angle. The Goa police, in a statement issued on the attack, stated “In the intervening night of 19-20 June, unknown persons attacked the residence of one Imran Bepari damaging his vehicle. The assailants allegedly fired some shots. One person identified as Sonu is dead and the body has been sent for post mortem examination. Further investigations are on. Questioning of witnesses is being carried out to ascertain motives and sequence of events” Imran was not available for comments when this report was being filed. The SP North Utkrisht Prasoon, the police team from the Old Goa police station, and a forensic team has rushed to the spot and cordoned off the area. The police said several teams have been formed, under the supervision of SP North to hunt down the assailants.
