PANJIM: The 20-year-old man from Kerala continues in isolation for suspected infection of nipah virus, at Goa Medical College and Hospital.
Speaking to Herald, Goa Medical College and Hospita Medical Superintendent (MS) Dr Shivanand Bandekar said the patient is being treated as a case of viral encephalitis and not nipah. “The internal test conducted by us has confirmed it to be a viral infection,” he said.
“The reports of blood samples sent to Pune will come on Wednesday, which will put light on whether it is nipah virus or not,” he said.
The patient who was passing through Goa by a train from Kerala and heading to Uttar Pradesh fell unconscious at Tivim railway station. He was initially referred to Asilo hospital in Mapusa and from there to GMC.
