MARGAO: The Cuncolim police on Friday arrested the husband on the charge of killing his wife after suspecting her extra-marital affair.
The police gave the name of the accused Gaurav Katiyar, 29, a native of Uttar Pradesh and the victim’s name as Diksha Ganganwar, 27 from Lucknow.
According to the police, both had married one-and-half-years ago and were residing in Goa, where the alleged accused was working as a manager in one of the starred hotels.
As per police sources, on Friday evening, Gaurav took Diksha on a two-wheeler at Rajbag near Cabo de Rama. He then took her to the seashore for a stroll, entered the water and allegedly strangulated her to death. She died due to suffocation.
Police sources said the murder was the outcome of extra-marital affairs. There used to be fights between them over her alleged infidelity, the sources added.
On getting the information, the Cuncolim police team comprising PI Diogo Gracias and PSI Tejaskumar Naik rushed to the spot and conducted the panchanama and shifted the body to the South District Hospital, Margao for post-mortem examination.
The forensic team, dog squad and finger print experts also rushed to the spot. The Cuncolim police have registered a case against Gaurav Katiyar under section 302 of IPC and are conducting further investigations.
