Suspend Goa Dairy officials: milk producers

Threaten to launch agitation if cattle feed rates are not reduced by May 1

PONDA: Furious over the recent scams, dairy farmers on Tuesday demanded the suspension of Goa Dairy Chairman, Board of Directors (BoD), Managing Director (MD) and Chief Accountant for the sorry state of affairs of the organisation.
At the farmers Melava held in Goa Dairy premises at Curti Ponda, the milk producers from across over Goa were furious over the recent scams and losses suffered by the Goa Dairy.
The milk producers demanded that the Registrar of Cooperative Societies (RCS) suspend the chairman, BoD, MD and chief accountant and conduct a fair probe into the scams by appointing an administrator.
They further demanded that cattle feed rates be reduced by Rs 2.50 by May 1 failing which they threatened to launch an agitation by way of morcha and hunger strike.
They said that the total amount of Rs five crore losses suffered Goa Dairy should be recovered from those, who found guilty in the probe and ensure a corruption-free Goa Dairy.
Some farmers, who joined SUMUL also attended the melava and added that they were eager to return to Goa Dairy if it is corruption-free.
The farmers questioned the stand of some BoDs for backing MD Navso Sawanth despite being suspended for the alleged scams in Goa Dairy.
Inquiry Committee head Dattaprasad Savordekar and Jayesh Desai briefed the farmers saying that as per their demand and after approval of BoD they conducted an inquiry and though they were stopped in conducting inquiry within two days they managed to get their hands on a crucial document during the probe and added that they were always ready to cooperate the CA appointed by Registrar.
When contacted MD Navso Sawanth refuted the allegations levelled against him and the accountant as baseless. He however said that he is ready for any inquiry.
Meanwhile, the farmers informed that CA Yatish Vernekar appointed by Registrar on April 6 to probe into the purchase of machinery, fill pack machines, and other items, is yet to begin investigation.
The farmers demanded that Registrar should ensure that the inquiry is conducted as the
CA was given three weeks to conduct the investigation.
Meanwhile, the no confidence motion against Goa Dairy Chairman Madhav Sahakari submitted by 8 directors will come for discussion on April 26.
