Inspector General of Prisons Elvis Gomes said he ordered the reinstatement of the seven jail guards who were under suspension for over six months. Sources said that the salaries of the jail guards will also be cleared shortly by the IG Prisons. Gomes said charges are being framed against all seven guards.
Seven jail guards and one jailor Krishna Usgaonkar were suspended in October 2015 for assaulting 50-odd inmates in the Colvale jail. Interestingly, Usgaonkar’s suspension was revoked in February 2015 despite a magisterial report recommending strict action, whereas the guards who had followed his order remained under suspension with no salaries.
