PANJIM: The suspense over BJP’s candidate for Mapusa by-polls continues as party’s Central Election Committee (CEC) on Tuesday withheld the announcement.
BJP State President Vinay Tendulkar had already confirmed Subhash Shirodkar and Dayanand Sopte for Shiroda and Mandrem constituencies.
Similarly, the upcoming Lok Sabha polls would once again have incumbent MPs Shripad Naik and Narendra Sawaikar contesting from their respective constituencies in the North and South.
While the race is hot for Mapusa seat, sources said that Sudhir Kandolkar is likely to be announced as the Mapusa by-election candidate on Wednesday leaving late MLA Francis D’Souza’s son Joshua high and dry. The CEC is expected to announce names for all the three constituencies as well as Lok Sabha candidates on Wednesday.
The State Election Committee of the BJP in Goa had recommended three names Joshua, Rupesh Kamat and Sudhir Kandolkar for the Mapusa by-election to the central committee whereas Shirodkar and Sopte, who quit Congress to join the BJP last October, were confirmed to contest from their respective constituencies.
While the date for Panjim bypoll is not decided yet, the BJP has also not discussed on any candidature so far.
