VASCO, JULY 29
A 16-year-old-girl from Verna died under mysterious circumstances at the Goa Medical College Hospital in Bambolim, prompting family members to lodge a complaint with Vasco police.
Vasco Police on Thursday registered the case as unnatural death to probe the case of Raveena Rodrigues, who died while undergoing treatment in GMC Hospital.
Vasco Police DySP Mahesh Gaonkar informed that they received a wireless message from GMC that Raveena had expired in the ICU ward of GMC.
“We have registered a case of unnatural death and are investigating the case further,” said DySP Gaonkar.
Family members have lodged a complaint with Vasco Police, after accusing doctors of negligence at a nursing home in Vaddem-Vasco and at the GMC.
In her complaint, Raveena’s sister Ravika stated that Raveena was admitted at a nursing home at Vaddem on July 3 for a suspected case of appendicitis and she was operated by a doctor.
Raveena was hospitalized for nearly six days at the nursing home and was suddenly shifted to GMC Hospital for further treatment without conveying any reason to the family members, claimed Ravika.
After Raveena was shifted to the GMC Hospital, doctors informed family members that she would have to be operated again. When the family demanded a reason for another operation, the doctors reportedly failed to give a satisfactory reply to their queries.
“This is negligence of the highest order from the doctors at the nursing home and GMC, amounting to be a culpable homicide not amounting to murder,” stated Ravika in her complaint.
“There is a need for a thorough investigation as to why my sister was shifted to GMC Hospital from the nursing home and why she was operated again at GMC without the consent of family members,” stated Ravika.
Ravika has demanded a thorough probe into the death of her sister to unearth the circumstances behind the death.
