ST ANDRE: Trinamool Congress (TMC) candidate from St Andre, Jagdish Bhobe is on a mission mode to debunk the common belief that politicians should be ruthless to succeed. He wants people to know that politics can also be done with a “good heart”.

Speaking to Herald TV during his door-to-door campaigning, Bhobe said that all educated, good hearted should get elected.

“I don’t believe that politicians have to be ruthless to succeed. If you are positive and work for your people with a good heart, the voters will accept you. Politicians should work for the people with a sense of commitment. That is what I do whenever I move within the community,” Bhobe said.

As far as his plans for the constituency is concerned, the TMC candidate said, “There unemployment issues. There is lack of recreation facilities. We improve this constituency by proper planning to promote hinterland tourism and not just sea beaches.”

Citing the potential of Agassaim village as an example, he said that it is a peaceful place.

“Tourists prefer to visit peaceful places for spending their time. Agassaim is a perfect place to develop hinterland tourism. There will be homestay facilities, gardens, swimming pool which will attract tourists to this village and help boost the local economy,” the TMC candidate said.

He said that he favoured sustainable development of his constituency. “We have to do development along with conserving the environment. Development does not necessarily mean building new structures. I want to utilise the available resources,” he said.

Citing an example he said that homestay could be promoted by utilising the homes of Goan expats in the villages here.

“There are many locals who have migrated to UK and their houses are lying unoccupied. Instead of selling away their houses, it can be redeveloped to suit the needs of homestay facility. This will attract tourists and boost the economy. It will also promote self-employment as there is employment issue here,” Bhobe said.

His ultimate aim for the constituency is to help people financially, which he feels would be possible through the TMC’s schemes like Yuva Shakti and Griha Laxmi.

“We want to bring smile on the faces of our people. This can be only possible when a politician is working in the community with a good heart,” he said.

A young TMC supporter said that Bhobe is the right candidate for them as he has always supported the cause of youngsters.

Another supporter lamented that the incumbent MLA did not come to help the people of his constituency during COVID crisis. Nor did he help the youth with job opportunities. “In contrast, Bhobe was on the ground helping us throughout the Covid-lockdown period. He always stood by the people,” he said.
