Swachh Bharat Abhiyan: Guv adopts five towns

PANJIM: The Governor Mridula Sinha has decided to adopt five towns - Panjim, Margao, Mapusa, Ponda and Vasco under the Swacha Goa Swachcha Bharat Abhiyan.

A committee with members including the members from the Governor’s office with commissioner and the chief municipal officer as the executing officer will be constituted for implementation of the project.
The Governor Monday morning chaired a meeting with the committee members constituted by the Governor upon being nominated as a national brand ambassador of Swachh Bharat mission by the prime minister.
Addressing the meeting, Sinha outlined the need to take on board and involve the various stakeholders of the concerned cities including government agencies, voluntary organizations, shopkeepers’ associations, etc, in making the campaign a success. “Apprise the stakeholders of the importance to maintain cleanliness which will provide the necessary fillip to the mission in achieving the desired result,” Governor said.
She recently held a meeting with the industrial and hotel players directing them to implement the Swachha Goa Swachcha Bharat Abhiyan.
Sinha favoured the idea of inculcating the cleanliness habit in school children right from a tender age – through schools. Active participation of school children will help in the larger interest in the long run, said Sinha.
MLA, Mauvin Godinho; Dr Satish Shetye; CCP Commissioner Sanjit Rodrigues were amongst those who attended the meeting
