MARGAO: Stating that Indian civilization is the only surviving civilisation in the world despite being seized and attacked by different people, Rajya Sabha MP Dr Subramaniam Swamy called for reviving the civilization for which there should be a resurgence of Hinduism.
Speaking to a packed audience at the Pai Tiatrist Auditorium in Margao, he said in ancient times the Chinese used to call India “Indugo”, meaning land of Hindus but as they could not pronounce ‘H’ they used ‘I’.
Claiming that the present history is distorted, he stressed the need to write correct history. “Not much is known about the Vijaynagar Empire, which ruled in the south for nearly 300 years and over a huge area, but much is written about Moghuls, who ruled over a smaller area and only for 150 years,” he said.
Stating that Hinduism has survived despite Muslims attacking it for over 600 years and the British for over 200 years, he said at present 80 per cent of the Indian population comprises of Hindus and stressed the need to change the mentality that anything coming from the West is best.
He said India taught mathematics to the world as calculus was used in the country first.
Similarly, he said the popular martial art karate was actually taken from Kerala to China, where it is known as Wushu and later to Japan.
Claiming that after 20 years of research, NASA found Sanskrit to be the only language to be used to generate artificial intelligence in robots, he termed it as a modern language and dismissed the British claim that Sanskrit is a dead language.
Stating that all Indian languages use Sanskrit words, he said even Tamil has 40 per cent Sanskrit words.
“We have to learn English because it is an international language, our mother tongue and also Sanskrit, which can be the link language,” he said.
Exuding confidence of getting an order to construct the Ram temple at Ayodhya, he said it would make it easier to get a temple constructed for Krishna at Mathura and then a temple for Vishnu at Kashiram.
“There are records to show that 40,000 temples were demolished but we are not asking for all of them to be rebuilt but for only three because it is a matter of faith and belief for us,” he said and claimed that the Muslims are objecting to the temple at Ayodhya only because the land belongs to them.
Claiming that Hinduism permits anyone to become a sanyasi, he said and added other religions such as Christianity have their bishops and other appointed by the Vatican.
“All Indians have the same DNA and this does not change as we are all Indians who converted to different religions,” he said and reiterated the need to change the mentality to consider all to be one.
He lamented that women are being discriminated against in present times while ancient India had high regards for them and in fact Goddesses are appointed for key areas like defence, finance and education in the form of Shakti, Lakshmi and Saraswati.
“The Mahabharata war took place because Draupadi was insulted and even Sita insisted that Ram come and defeat Ravana, who had abducted her,” he said and added that women were highly respected in the bygone era.
