NEW DELHI: Bhartiya Janata Party MP Subramanian Swamy has called for healing the long-standing hurt feelings and sentiments of the Sikh community by the government by deeply regretting the military deployment in the Golden Temple at Amritsar on June 6, 1984 and take speedy action against the mass killing of the Sikhs from November 1 to 3 in 1984 as a sequel to the assassination of then Prime Minister Indira Gandhi by her bodyguards.
He had sought to move a resolution in the Rajya Sabha in this regard on Friday, though it didn’t materialise as the House was adjourned for the day early in the morning. He said the resolution remains on the agenda and he would push for it at the earlier opportunity.
The resolution says the targeted mass killing of Sikhs in November 1984 continues to shock the conscience of the patriotic citizens of India and as such the Union and State Governments should declassify all the records relating to the two tragic events of 1984 and bring to book all those guilty of the mass killing.
