SWMF at Cacora to be one of Asia’s best: Minister

CURCHOREM: “Solid Waste Management Facility (SWMF) project which is coming up at Cacora will be one of the best projects in whole of Asia,” Power Minister Nilesh Cabral said on Wednesday.
Cabral, who represents Curchorem Constituency, also assured to beautify the project and the surrounding area to attract the tourists.
“As promised, the garbage would be collected only from Quepem, Canacona, Sanguem and Dharbanodra talukas and the area would be developed to attract tourists,” Cabral said and thanked the councillors and the people for their cooperation to set up the SWMF.
He also informed that within the next six to seven months, the new administrative building of Curchorem-Cacora Municipal Council (CCMC) would be completed. And he urged the newly elected chairperson of CCMC to follow-up and complete all the formalities to start the work on Sewage Treatment Plant (STP) which is proposed behind the existing KTC bus stand.
Meanwhile, under Open Defecation Free (ODF) mission, the municipality has decided to make all the 14 wards under their jurisdiction ODF by July 31 as the construction work of 43 toilets sanctioned by the government would be completed by then.
Further, the municipality has decided to send its staff to visit the houses under its jurisdiction to sensitise and create awareness among the people to keep their areas clean and how to segregate wet and dry garbage.
