Anjuna: The owners of illegal structures along the Anjuna coast will now have to run from pilar to post to save themselves from the long arm of the law as the Village Panchayat has issued show cause notices to 260 landowners for their illegalities and has asked them to submit furnish documents to prove their legality.
The panchayat has given a time period of 7 days to the owners to file replies to the notices and has also asked them to submit documents/permissions obtained to substantiate their claims.
The owners of Riva Cafe, Purple Martini, Lilliput, Shiva Valley, Water Beach Lounge, Salud, Ivory, Ozrant Heights feature among residential houses, cottages, restaurants, shacks, tents etc who have been issued show cause notices for violating the law.
The action was initiated after Bombay High Court at Goa directed the Goa Coastal Zone Management Authority (GCZMA) and the Anjuna Police to carry out an extensive survey of structures along the entire beach stretch of Anjuna. The panchayat had sought four months time to verify and clear the illegalities.
Meanwhile the panchayat had also issued demolition notice to Romeo Lane Resto Club under section 66/4 of Goa Panchayat Raj Act,1994 however it was kept on hold as the BDO stayed the demolition of the structure.
The matter will now heard on December 20 before the office of Additional Directorate of Panchayat.
“As directed by the High court, we have issued show cause notices to 260 structures on the Anjuna beach stretch. These include residential houses and other commercial structures including cafes and restaurants. We have sought four months time from the High Court to verify and clear the illegalities,” said Anjuna-Caisua Sarpanch Laxmidas Chimulkar.
