PANJIM: South West Port Limited (SWPL) has withdrawn its application filed before the National Green Tribunal (NGT) that pleaded for a modification of its country wide order prohibiting the grant of environment clearances to projects in absence of an integrated coastal management plan for the State.
The Expert Appraisal Committee of the Union Ministry of Environment and Forest had recommended the berth expansion project of SWPL FOR berth number 5A and 6A at Mormugao Port Trust.
NGT through a country wide order dated November 22, 2017 prohibited granting EC for projects in CRZ areas. Accordingly, SWPL had moved NGT seeking a modification of this order. With NGT failing to give any respite, the application was withdrawn. SWPL is expected to move either the HC or the SC for reliefs.
Goa State Pollution Control Board has revoked consent granted to SWPPL for handling coal/coke at Mormugao Port Trust, on grounds that the company violated consent terms under the Air and Water Acts and imported quantities vastly in excess of the limits prescribed.
The Board has also initiated a criminal case against the company under the two Acts.
