SWR uses idle AC coaches to transport chocolates, noodles

VASCO: The South Western Railway, Hubballi Division utilised its unused AC coaches to transport chocolates and other food products. 

In a press note, SWR said, “Chocolates and noodles weighing 163 tonnes were loaded in 18 air conditioned coaches from Vasco to Okhla.  The consignment of M/s AVG Logistics loaded in AC parcel express train will cover a distance of 2115 kms and is expected to reach Delhi on Saturday. The same has fetched revenue of Rs 12.83 lakh to the Railways.  

SWR said, “With the marketing efforts of Business Development Unit (BDU) of Hubballi Division, this new stream of traffic has been captured by the Railways, which was traditionally transported via road.”  

Congratulating the efforts of BDU, Hubballi Divisional Railway Manager, Arvind Malkhede said, “The Railway is proactively reaching out to customers to utilise rail services which are faster, smoother and cost effective services.  This approach is being appreciated by industries and merchants.  The monthly parcel earning of Hubballi Division has crossed Rs one crore-mark since October 2020.  The parcel earning of Hubballi Division during September 2021 stood at Rs 1.58 crore while the cumulative parcel earning of the Division during current Financial Year up to September 2021 was Rs 11.17 crore.”  

He appealed the customers to utilise railway service to transport their cargos.
