Symposium to aid agricultural growth concludes at Calangute

CALANGUTE, NOV 1 The 9th National Symposium on 'Sustainable Agriculture, Livelihood Security and Ecology of Coastal Region' concluded at Palmarinha Resort, Calangute, recently. The National Symposium was held with a desire to look into possibilities of improvement of the agricultural growth through latest technology.

The 9th National Symposium on ‘Sustainable Agriculture, Livelihood Security and Ecology of Coastal Region’ concluded at Palmarinha Resort, Calangute, recently.
The National Symposium was held with a desire to look into possibilities of improvement of the agricultural growth through latest technology.
The three-day event organised by Dr Balasahel Sawant Konkan Krishi Vidyapeeth, Dapoli (Ratnagiri) in collaboration with Indian Society of Coastal Agricultural Research and Central Soil Salinity Research Institute, Karnal (Haryana) was attended by over 150 delegates from the coastal States and Union Territories.
Various topics concerning the agriculture industry including ‘advances in sustainable soil and nutrient for enhancing crop productivity’, ‘innovations on livelihood improvement with focus on Maharastra and Goa region’, ‘ecological threats to coastal region and adaptation strategies for mitigation and management of coastal forestry’ and ‘rainwater harvesting through lined farm pond for sustainable development of Konkan Region’ were discussed and deliberated at the 9th National Symposium.
The need of Goa region adapting to the other hybrids taking into consideration the conditions were also deliberated for the betterment of the Goan farmers.
Addressing a press conference, Dr Vijay Mehta, Vice Chncellor of Dr B S Konkan Krishi Vidyapeeth (Dapoli) said the University has been carrying out researches to give a boost to agricultural growth, but regretted that the response from Goan farmers is very lukewarm to its researches and felt that the Goa Government should initiate steps in the direction.
Dr Mehta also highlighted that the other governments in the coastal region havn been providing such benefits to their farmers and called upon the Goa government to do likewise.
Earlier, Speaker Pratapsingh Rane inaugurated the 9th National Symposium in the presence Vice Chancellor of Dr B S Konkan Krishi Vidyapeeth (Dapoli) Dr Vijay Mehta, Dr A K Bandyopadhay, Dr B K Banyopadhay, Dr S S Dhane, Dr S A Chavan, Dr N B Gokhale, Dr S S P Tendulkar, Director of Agriculture (Goa) among others.
Rane felicitated Dr Vijay Mehta with Fellow Award of Indian Society of Coastal Agricultural Research (ISCAR) and also released the Souvenir to mark the occasion.
