PONDA: It was an impressive sight as the five-day Ganesh idol immersion procession at Adpoi witnessed the participation of thousands of devotees with the tableaus highlighting several issues affecting the common man.
The themes centred on the current issues in the state such as pothole ridden roads, formalin-laced fish and artificially ripened fruits and vegetables. The public especially appreciated two tableaus depicting serious problems, seeking Lord Ganesh’s intervention to bless the government with wisdom to act against the people responsible for the mess.
The tableau “Make Goa Roads Free From Potholes“ sent a message to the government to fill up such roads to save people’s lives.
The second tableau on the formalin issue raised question as to why these people are playing with people’s lives and demanded action against agents involved in supplying formalin-laced fish and artificially ripened fruits and vegetables.
It is pertinent to note that the traditional five-day Ganesh idol immersion procession at Adpoi not only enthrals Goans but at the same time awakens the government on issues affecting the common man.
Around 12 to 13 families celebrate the five-day festival jointly by installing Ganesh idol of each family separately. On the fifth day the tableau of each of the family along with idol is taken out in a procession for immersion.  Ayush Minister Shripad Naik celebrated the festival at his ancestral home at Adpoi and South Goa MP Adv Narendra Sawaikar and former MLA Damu Naik were present at the Ganesh idol immersion procession.
