VASCO: Opening front against the Mormugao Municipal Council (MMC) and accusing the Council of failing to handle the issue of garbage dump issue, Mormugao MLA Milind Naik on Tuesday threatened to stop dumping of garbage at the Headland Sada based plant owned by the council, if MMC fails to take the issue seriously.
“MMC’s garbage treatment plant is located in my constituency and since the Council failed to handle the garbage dump and left the plant in mess I stepped in and though Goa State Urban Development Agency (GSUDA) a contractor namely Eco Pro Environment Services was appointed to treat existing thrash dumped at the Sada plant. The contractor whom GSIDA paid Rs 5 crores also used all his manpower, worked day and night and managed to clear about 45 to 50 percent of waste but without any foresight council continued to dump mixed garbage at the plant and the area that was cleared by the contractor is again filled with fresh garbage,” Naik told Herald.
“I don’t know why Vasco Municipality is not serious and is failing to take any positive steps or made any plans so that existing dump could be cleared. I think Council will understand the seriousness of the issue only if we stop the garbage trucks from dumping waste in the plant,” Naik threatened.
