PONDA: The locals from Durbhat, Talaulim, Kavlem, Daag and Ponda, have urged authorities concerned to repair damaged roads before the Ganesh Chaturthi to ensure the safety of motorists and shoppers.
Kisan Naik, a social worker, said that large craters have developed on the road near the PWD office in Daag, dug for carrying out developmental works such as laying of underground power cables and sewage lines, which has resulted in accidents on the sharp turns. Besides, the water pipeline at the site was damaged twice.
The locals pointed out that the seven-metre-long trench developed on the road opposite the Saraswati Temple poses further risks.
They further complained that the recently tarred roads washed away due to heavy rain, leading to dust pollution during the current dry spell.
The roads near the bus stand, petrol pump, and Kavlem-Talaulim road too are in poor condition, prompting residents to seek urgent repairs before the festival.
