Taleigao Dog Attack: Owner of Rottweiler Arrested

Panjim police have taken V Madhav Rao Chavan into custody, the owner of a Rottweiler involved in a distressing incident. The police filed a First Information Report (FIR) against Chavan following an attack by his Rottweiler on two young siblings, aged five and seven, on Sunday evening in Shivnagar Alto-Oitiyant, Taleigao.

Chavan has been charged under several sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC), including 289, which pertains to negligent conduct involving animals, as well as sections 337 and 338, which deal with causing harm by actions that endanger the safety of others.

This legal action comes after Goa State Commission for Protection of Child Rights, Peter Borges took cognizance of the O Heraldo’s report. Borges contacted Panjim Police Inspector Nikhil Palekar, urging appropriate measures against the Rottweiler’s owner.

The incident occurred as the children were on an evening walk accompanied by their mother. The boy sustained injuries to his face, ear, and chest, while the dog inflicted severe wounds to the girl’s skull and neck.
