PANJIM: At a time when three policemen in Cuncolim were attacked by some drunken youth, there’s another incident in Panjim wherein a constable is accused of assaulting an elderly woman.
Pushpa Keny, a resident of Taleigao has lodged a complaint with the Panjim Police Station alleging that police constable Suraj Tendulkar has been threatening and abusing the family. While police registered a non-cognisable offence, the Keny family, who are related to the constable has decided to approach the court demanding his suspension and First Information Report.
“Tendulkar has been harassing me and my family for several years over a property issue. Although the property has been equally divided among the family members, he is illegally trying to encroach into our share. He has since then made our lives miserable,” the victim woman said.
The dispute has been going on for more than a decade with at least 3-4 complaints filed with the local police against Tendulkar. “Despite many complaints, there is no respite. He continues to harass me. If no action is taken we will move the court,” she said.
Police sources said they have verbally warned the constable to not repeat this behaviour.
It is learnt that Keny had approached Chief Minister’s Office in 2013 demanding action against him. She has yet again requested the CMO to heed to the request without delay.
