PANJIM: Congress spokesperson Sudip Tamhankar is being investigated for fabricating documents and forging signatures of a Pernem local to produce it as evidence against two BJP ministers showing their involvement with drug mafia.
The Panjim police station taking cognizance of complaint lodged by Pernem resident Madhu Kanolkar on Tuesday registered an offence against Tamhankar under various sections of IPC.
According to the complainant, the Congressman fabricated documents and forged his signature to submit to the CBI as evidence against Health Minister Laxmikant Parsekar and Art & Culture Minister Dayanand Mandrekar for their alleged involvement with the drug mafia in the state.
Meanwhile, Anjuna resident Roy Fernandes has also filed a criminal defamation case against Congress spokesman Sudip Tamhankar alleging that he made defamatory false statements with deliberate intention to malign his image.
In his complaint to the Anjuna police station, Fernandes said Tamhankar had said at a press conference that he (Fernandes) was running illegal trade with the blessings of politicians and police.
“He (Tamhankar) went out to falsely and maliciously state that I am a drug trafficker and that during the previous BJP rule my business was stopped by Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar and resumed after the intervention of Dayanand Mandrekar and no action was taken by police,” he said.
