PANJIM: Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) State president Sadanand Shet Tanavade, reacted to the comments made by Utpal Parrikar, who had resigned from BJP recently. He also disclosed Prime Minister Narendra Modi along with Union Home Minister Amit Shah will visit Goa for Assembly elections campaigning from January 28 onwards.

Tanavade referred to what Utpal’s father former Chief Minister (late) Manohar Parrikar, had done with regards to Panjim MLA Atanasio Babush Monserrate.

“Manohar Parrikar’s approach towards politics was pragmatic. He never shied away from compromising on principles in the interest of the party. It was Manohar Parrikar who made Babush minister in his cabinet in 2002 and later gave chairmanship of Panjim PDA in 2017,” said Tanavade.

He was surprised by the negative reaction on selection of Babush as the BJP’s Panjim candidate by a section of the BJP cadre.

On PM Modi and the visit of BJP’s senior leaders, Tanavade said, “The key leaders will participate in meetings, dialogues and contact programs from January 28 onwards. We will remain fully abided by the COVID SOP’s and guidelines issued by Election Commission of India (ECI).”

He also revealed that union ministers Nitin Gadkari and Smriti Irani, BJP national president J P Nadda, BJP Goa election in-charges Devendra Fadnavis and G Kishen Reddy and Darshana Jardosh, Goa desk in-charge C T Ravi and other national leaders are informed to attend the gatherings. “Some of these leaders are already camping in Goa and meeting people along with the candidates. BJP Goa will release its manifesto during this period,” added Tanavade.
