Taps run dry in Panjim as water pipeline bursts

PANJIM: Water supply has been affected in Mala, Neugi Nagar and Sao Tome areas of Panjim due to a pipeline burst near the Sinari petrol pump in the city.

The local residents are facing great inconvenience as there is no supply of water since Wednesday evening.

The pipeline reportedly burst on Wednesday afternoon at around 4 pm and after learning the same the Public Works Department (PWD) swung into action and started repairing the pipeline.

Corporation of the City of Panaji (CCP) Councillor of the area Subham Chodankar informed that the repair work is executed by the plumbers and labourers appointed by the PWD under the direct supervision of a Junior Engineer.

“Presently the digging work is going on and if everything goes well then the repair work will be completed by late Wednesday night or by Thursday morning. If they encounter some other problem, then people have to wait for a little longer,” Chodankar said.

“Nobody knows how the pipeline got damaged, I am told that water supply will be restored immediately after they complete the work,” he added.

Sources said that the water supply was restored only at 9 pm last night.
