Taps run dry in South Goa
HERALD CORRESPONDENT
QUEPEM, FEB 9
Water supply to virtually the entire South Goa was disrupted since Monday morning, as work is in progress to connect the pipeline at Ambaulim.
While the new pipeline from Selaulim (Sanguem) has been commissioned up to Sirvoi (Quepem), the pipeline has been recently laid from Sirvoi to St Jose de Areal (Salcete).
Work is in progress to commission the pipeline from Sirvoi to St Jose de Areal and the pipeline is being connected at Ambaulim (Quepem).
As such, authorities have shut down water supply to entire South Goa till Tuesday night, when work is expected to be completed.
This forced residents of South Goa to seek alternative ways to procure and store potable water. Since the shutdown was informed in sections of the press, many residents made provision to store water well in advance. Others, however, were caught unawares and had to rely on private water tankers or water bodies (wells or springs) in their locality.
Quepem has been badly affected, as there are no large water storage tanks in the taluka.
