ANJUNA: Over the last two days tiny oily tar balls have surfaced on Anjuna and Candolim beach stretch causing inconvenience to tourists walking on and bathing off the beach. A thin layer of this oily substance was noticed at several places on both these beaches. Tar balls are lumps of solidified crude oil discharged in the sea that get washed ashore.
The staff of Drishti Marine informed that the tiny oily black substance was noticed at Candolim and Anjuna over the last two days. They are attempting to clean up the affected areas so that the tourists do not face any problems while strolling along the beach.
However, not many people were noticed at Anjuna beach on Wednesday afternoon.
A local tourist at the beach stated that these tar balls depositing at Anjuna is not something new as they had witnessed the same at Mumbai’s famous, Juhu beach as well.
“It is sticky and difficult to get these stains off the feet and skin but we are not new to this. These tar balls are witnessed due to ships and other vessels releasing their waste oil into the water unethically. We have seen bigger ones in Mumbai,” said Dhruv Ghoshal.
Another tourist stated that it was getting difficult to walk along the beach due the presence of the oily substance that was clinging to the feet.
