Task force formed to tackle predicted 3rd wave

PANJIM: The State government has constituted a 15-member special task force to prepare for the oncoming third wave of the coronavirus and protect children.

Chief Minister Dr Pramod Sawant and Health Minister Vishwajit Rane will be the chairman and the vice chairman of the special task force, which will also comprise government and private paediatricians.

In addition to this, the government has also formed a special expert committee under the chairmanship of Goa Medical College (GMC) Dean Dr Shivanand Bandekar to formulate common Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and medicine protocols. The same treatment protocols will be followed in government as well as private hospitals, Sawant said.  

The first meeting of the special task force was held on Friday evening. After the meeting, the Chief Minister said that all requisite preparations in terms of infrastructure, medicine and equipment will be made at government and private hospitals in Goa within a period of one month to 

ensure that the State is fully prepared to tackle the third wave of COVID-19 pandemic, if it ever comes. 

Sawant said that around 120 paediatricians in the State, government doctors, nurses, paramedical staff and counsellors will be trained for handling the third wave of Coronavirus.
