PANJIM: Chief Minister Dr Pramod Sawant on Friday said that the State suffered losses to the extent of approximately Rs 146 crore due to gusty winds and heavy rains triggered by Cyclone Tauktae.
Sawant told reporters that cyclone caused heavy losses to Electricity Department and government school buildings.
“Losses suffered by the fishermen as they could not venture out into the sea for fishing for three days and damages caused to forest and private properties and agriculture crops are also included,” he added.
The report of assessment of losses will be submitted to the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) soon, he said.
Sawant regretted that the government could not restore electricity supply for three to four days following cyclone.
Sawant said that due to manpower shortage the government had to outsource the work to restore power supply on war footing. Water supply in some of the areas was also affected due to power outages, he said.
