PONDA: Minister for Animal Husbandary Ramesh Tawadkar has appealed to the farmers to go for dairy and poultry farming in Goa.
Tawadkar was speaking at Animal Husbandary training office at Curti-Ponda after releasing its ‘Goa Vet Directory 2015’.
Speaking further, he said poultry, milk and dairy production can be best medium of revenue generation for Goans. “With rising flow of tourists and tourist-related activities in Goa, the demand for milk, eggs and chicken has increased, while production is falling short and we have to depend on import from neighbouring states,” he stated.
“Goans should change and leave their ‘Susegad’ mentality and seriously rethink of reviving traditional dairy farming as a business,” said Tawadkar.
“There is a need for guidance for farmers, who have no business mind, to develop their activities and avail schemes for them only for subsidy purpose,” he added.
He appreciated the efforts of Goa Veterinary Association to provide informative vet directory to farmers.
Animal Husbandary Director Benjamin Braganza, Goa Dairy Managing director Dr Navsu Sawant, Dr H Ingale and Dr Ragunath Dhuri were present for the function.
Goa Veterinary Association President Dr Ragunath Dhuri and Dr Braganza also spoke on the occasion.
