to resolve the deficiencies in the schemes and also to impress upon them to increase the milk production by attracting the youth to the business.
The produce of Milk in Goa has always been deficient to the demand of the State. The present demand of milk in Goa is nearly 2.5 lakh liters per day, but production is 1.2 to 1.3 lakh liters per day. The collection is at the rate of 65 thousand liters per day.
On the occasion, Tawadkar said, “Our idea in calling the dairy farmers for a meeting has been to ponder upon the idea to make Goa self sufficient and to create a positive change in the dairy farming.”
“It will happen if we get together and discuss and reveal what the traditional dairy farmers have done to succeed in the farming,” he said.
“I am confident that the expected change can be infused into the dairy farming with the support of the Goa government, which is the highest when compared to all other states. Community dairy concept is being formulated to attract the youth so that they make an effort to grow together,” Tawadkar added.
A dairy farmer at the interaction suggested that Cotigao to Gaondongorim is a lot of distance and it sometimes gets difficult for them to reach the sub centre of collection of Milk. The farmers of Gaodongorim requested the Minister to set up a sub centre for collection of Milk at Khotigao as the farmers have been having hard time reaching at the nearby centre.
“We need some help to build a good cowshed; and several developments can be done to the farming, if the banks support the same with help of some subsidy scheme by government,” said a dairy farmer.
