PANJIM: The differences between the tourist taxi operators and app-based cab service GoaMiles once again knocked the doors of the Transport Department as hundreds from taxi association on Wednesday marched to the office of Transport Director Rajan Satardekar demanding cancellation of licence to its rival firm.
The taxi operators had announced to the media on Tuesday evening about visiting the department to ensure speedy solution to the competition between the two cab services.
However, on Wednesday morning as vehicular traffic was stalled due to mass gathering, the Panjim police asked the association leader Bappa Korgaokar to form a delegation in order to clear the chaos outside Junta House that houses Transport Department among other government offices.
When a delegation of 16 members agreed to heed to police request, soon they realised that no transport officer was available to listen to their grievance.
Korgaonkar, while speaking to the media, slammed the government for making empty promises to resolve their grievance. “Transport Minister Mauvin Godinho had assured to meet the taxi operators to resolve the issue within fifteen days but it’s one month that neither CM nor the transport minister has taken any cognisance of this issue,” he said. No official statement from the department or the government has been released so far.
Godinho, in a recent statement had stated that GoaMiles will soon come under the purview of Transport Department while claiming that confusion about the app-based cab service is because it is partially controlled by Tourism and remaining half by the Transport department.
