PANJIM: A group of taxi operators held a protest on Thursday alleging inefficiency on the part of Transport Department to address various related issues including installation of digital taxi fare meters.
“On July 19, we had given notice to the government explaining issues with respect to installation of digital meters. We had told them that taxis entering from other States are not regularised and as such, there is ambiguity whether they need to install meters. After which we even approached the court,” aggrieved member Sudip Tamhankar said.
He further said that 600 representations have been submitted to the government but Chief Minister Dr Pramod Sawant has not reverted on any of these.
“Taxi operators are in dilemma because on one hand Transport Minister Mauvin Godinho says taxi permits have been cancelled and on the other hand Chief Minister Sawant says they are not. What can the taxi operators do when such contradictory statements come from the government,” he said.
