Taxi operators continue to clash with Goamiles drivers

Three police complaints filed against cabbies

PANJIM: The tussle between taxi operators and Goamiles drivers continues even after the launch of the App five months ago. After Goamiles drivers were allegedly harassed, three complaints have been filed against the cabbies.
In a first case reported last week, a Goamiles driver lodged a complaint with the Anjuna police that he was assaulted by unknown persons outside a starred hotel in Baga. “The complainant who has been successfully operating under Goamiles, in his complaint has stated that he was abused severely by 10-15 persons whom he identified as taxi operators and drivers after a passenger boarded his vehicle at Baga,” a press statement issued by the Tourism Department states.
The department said it strongly backed the complainant and would follow up on the case aggressively with the police and the Transport Department.
J Sumeth of Goamiles said they are deeply concerned about the safety and security of their personnel as well as of passengers who are opting for their services. “This unruly behaviour of a certain disgruntled section of taxi operators will not be acceptable and neither will it deter us from marching on to get stern action taken against the offenders and see that they are brought to book. We are also moving the transport department to take necessary action against the culprits,” he said.
It is learnt that in the last one week similar incidents have been reported by two more App drivers who have also taken the help of the police.
The App has around 1000 odd taxis under its services and has been successfully marching on with encouraging response, the department said.
