Taxi operators in Benaulim raised their concerns on issues such as speed governance, harassment by the transport department, and the presence of Goa Miles taxis in the constituency. They met MLA Venzy and claimed that the company had provided them with a false certificate and had disappeared. The operators demanded that they would comply with the government’s rules and regulations if the car manufacturer installed the speed governor with insurance coverage and if it is regulated by the Weights and Measures department.
Speaking to one of the taxi operators, he also mentioned being harassed by the transport department, which requires them to install speed governors and then disclaims any responsibility. This results in them having to repeatedly install new governors.
Taxi operators also highlighted that, according to information from the police station, the percentage of accidents involving tourist taxis is less than two percent.MLA Venzy expressed the opinion that the government should provide a one-year relaxation for all speed governors manufactured by companies that have halted their business operations. These governors should also be brought under Weights and Measures department regulations. He further said, the issue regarding Goa Miles, the operators had previously requested that the taxis not be parked in their constituency, and the company had agreed to this request. However, it has been observed that Goa Miles taxis are still waiting for pickups in the area. As a response, Venzy urged people to download the Google Camera app and report any instances of Goa Miles taxis parked in Benaulim by sending photos to the police station.
