PANJIM: Claiming that the local taxi operators from Pernem have started getting onboard, Tourism Minister Rohan Khaunte on Sunday said that enough taxis and other means of transport will be made available to the passengers arriving at Manohar International Airport, Mopa, where the flight operations are set to commence from January 5, 2023.
Speaking to media persons, Khaunte said that the issue of taxi operators will be solved before the first flight takes off from Manohar International Airport. “Local taxi operators from Pernem have already started to register to get on board.
They are given preference as we have commenced the process to allot spots for taxis at the new airport,” he explained.
He reiterated that a queue system in line with the ones followed at other airports will be introduced.
When asked about Goa Taxi App, the Minister said that the entire process is completed and post interaction with taxi associations, the proposal will be placed before the cabinet for approval.
The state government also plans to operate buses of state-run Kadamba Transport Corporation Limited from the airport for people who don’t want to take taxis.
The State government is likely to hold a meeting with the taxi association next week to discuss and explain the functioning of the Goa Taxi App.
On Friday, Chief Minister Pramod Sawant held a meeting with Khaunte and Transport Minister Mauvin Godinho to review the progress of the app services pitched by the government.
Post meeting, the Chief Minister had announced that the app will be launched at the new airport before the first flight takes off. He had even said that the government will prescribe the rates per trip.
