CALANGUTE: The All Goa Taxi Owners Association on Tuesday decided to continue with their agitation demanding with the government to scrap the GoaMiles App and not to allow GoaMiles taxis to pick up customers from the coastal belt.
A meeting of the Association was called at Candolim parking lot, to create awareness amongst the taxi owners/drivers and resolved to handle the GoaMiles and local taxi owners tussle without violating the law and order.
Chetan Kamat, president of North Goa Taxi Owners Association said, “This meeting was called to unite our taxi owners/drivers to request the government to scrap the GoaMiles App and to handle this tussle between the taxi owners and GoaMiles peacefully. We have decided that we are not going to allow GoaMiles taxis to pick up customers from the coastal belt but without violating the law and order. Because all this while it’s the local taxi owners and drivers who are suffering with the police complaints and assaults which we don’t want to happen.”
“Now every time the GoaMiles vehicles enter the hotels for pick up, we will brief them and also call the police since it’s we who are losing the business and we don’t want to violate law and order,” Kamat added.
The taxi owners/drivers also warned Calangute MLA to face consequences if he fails to resolve their issues.
Yogesh Govekar, a taxi owner said, “The MLAs in the coastal belt should be ready to sit at home if they fail to scrap the GoaMiles App. With this App, the government has taken away our livelihood.”
