MAPUSA: North Goa Taxi Owners Association in a press conference at Vagator on Wednesday seeks State government intervention in relaxing the EMI payment of their vehicles. Association requested the Chief Minister Pramod Sawant and Transport Minister to communicate with concern banks from which they have availed loans to buy taxis so that they get moratorium till the tourism industry booms.
Chetan Kamat a taxi owner said that the taxi owners are being harassed by the banks as the banks are asking for installments of loan through phone calls and by sending letters and further threatening to attach the vehicles if the installments are not paid.
“95 per cent taxi owners are completely dependent on the taxi business. Our only request to Government is that they talk to the banks and give us relaxation on payment of EMI’s till the tourism business reopens,” said Kamat.
“We are ready to pay the instalment but for time being till the tourism opens,” said Yogesh Govekar, another taxi owner.
