Taxi owners to protest meter maintenance charge

CALANGUTE: Taxi owners from the north Goa coastal belt have decided to hold a protest meeting to oppose the state government decision to levy annual maintenance charge of Rs 4,654 for the taxi fare meter which was made compulsory for all tourist taxis in the state from last year.

Taxi owners and union members will hold a protest meeting against the maintenance charge at the transport department office in Panjim on Wednesday at 10 am.

Taxi owners had earlier also opposed the installation of the taxi meters, following which the government had agreed to provide a subsidy.
