VASCO: Mormugao Port Tourist Taxi Union (MPTTU) has demanded stringent action against a local activist for allegedly ferrying illegally foreign tourists in his private car from Harbour Cruise terminal.
MPTTU has demanded that the transport department cancel his driving licence and car registration so that no such incidence takes place at the cruise terminal.
Addressing the press on Thursday at Mormugao Harbour Port terminal, MPTTU President Sanjay Kanoji expressed dislike and shock that a Headland Sada based activist illegally ferried foreign tourists in his private car from Mormugao Harbour Cruise terminal.
“There is a self declared activist in Headland Sada, who was recently caught red handed by traffic police at Cortalim junction while he was ferrying foreign tourists in his private car illegally. His car was impounded by the traffic police and the tourists had to come back to Harbour in police vehicle, after this incidence,” Kanoji said.
Claiming that such incidence is bringing bad name to taxi operators, he said, “We, therefore, demand that stringent action against the activist.”
Another member of the taxi union questioned how can an activist, who is known for pointing out wrongs of others, involve himself in such an illegal act. “This activist is the one who met Transport Minister Mauvin Godinho and put efforts to raze our information desk at the cruise terminal,” he added.
