MAPUSA: Thousands of taxis across Bardez continued to remain off the road to protest the BJP-led coalition government’s decision asking them to join an app-based cab aggregator.
However locals and tourists were put into inconvenience due to this move. Taxi operators claim that they will continue with their agitation which commenced on Friday and be off the roads until the Goa government decides to withdraw the GoaMiles App.
Few people renting their cars and bikes have joined this protest and have refrained from renting their vehicles to tourists.
President of the All Goa Taxi Owners Association, Chetan Kamat informed Herald that 80 percent of the taxis across the State are off the road.
“This is not a strike it is an agitation demanding that the government scrap the app. We have not forced any taxi operator to keep their vehicles off the road but most of them have unanimously done so. The rent-a-cab operators and black and yellow taxi operators have also supported us. We demand from the government to first scarp this app and then we will sit down and by taking the people into confidence we will work out a solution,” said Kamat.
