TCP approves 107 provisional zone changes under Sec 16B

Applications with area of less than 500 sq mtrs and those between 500 sq mtrs to 1000 sq mtrs considered for provisional approvals

PANJIM: The Town and Country Planning (TCP) Board that met after three months on Friday granted provisional approvals to 107 applicants, with an area of less than 500 sq mtrs, for zone change under Section 16B of the TCP Act.
Deputy Chief Minister Chandrakant Kavlekar, who holds the TCP portfolio, chaired the first Board meeting on Friday after taking over in July. Addressing media persons, Kavlekar said that after conducting a detailed study of the department in the last three months, he chaired the meeting.
Kavlekar said that as promised on the floor of the House, they have considered 107 applications, with an area of less than 500 sq mtrs and those between 500 sq mtrs to 1000 sq mtrs, for grant of provisional approvals for zone change under section 16B.
He said there were 3,400 applications within 500 sq mtrs area and 600 applications between 501 sq mtrs to 1,000 sq mtrs pending with the Board. “We have decided to take them up on priority and in the first meeting we cleared 107 applications, with a total area of 66,000 sq mtrs,” Kavlekar said. “All these applications are small cases and we need to help them,” Kavlekar said.
Kavlekar said that the Board has granted provisional approvals to 341 applications, of which 234 were granted by his predecessor Vijai Sardesai. Of the 234 provisional approvals, 205 have been notified while 29, which were granted clearance during the last meeting chaired by Sardesai in July, are yet to be notified.
During the State Legislative Assembly’s monsoon session held in July, Kavlekar had promised to take up these small cases on priority in order to give justice to the common man.
Four statutory appeals under the TCP Act were also heard.
