PANJIM: The Town and Country Planning Board, on Friday, approved the Outline Development Plan for Taleigao, under the Greater Panjim PDA.
The new ODP encourages vertical growth and has made options for two cemeteries, parking spaces and a new market complex in Taleigao.
“The 164th adjourned meeting of the TCP Board was completed today and the major issue was that Taleigao ODP 2028 has been approved,” TCP Minister Vijai Sardesai said.
He said that the Greater Panjim PDA was constituted on January 31, 2018 and as per norms they had to adopt and finalise a PDA within a year.
“This is as per stipulated in Town Planning Act, which says that once PDA is constituted they have to adopt and finalise the ODP within a year,” Sardesai said the PDA was pending since 2016 and was long overdue.
Sardesai further said there were 291 applications for objections and suggestions by the Sub-committee headed by JP Coutinho, former town planner.
The minister said that there was always a complaint that Taleigao fields were getting converted.
“We have found out that 15,37,795 sq mts of pure agriculture fields exist in Taleigao besides 4,57,017 orchard land,” he pointed out.
Asked about the highlight ODP, he replied, the new ODP will have a 15,000 sq mts Indoor stadium, 4000 sq mt for cemetery, parking for 200 vehicles near Church square. Besides, he added, 30,000 sq mts has been earmarked for water harvesting another New market complex near church and another cemetery has been proposed.
“Another Cemetery which is almost like a Sea View cemetery has been made provision for. It will be next to Miramar road. That is for Rosary church at Caranzalem.”
“Total area of Taleigao is 9.10 square kilometres. There is a proposal for Panchayat Ghar, Animal Shelter, and baling centre for Solid Waste Management plant. There is a proposal for EDC hub at Dona Paula. There is provision for Joggers Park at Caranzalem,” he said.
“The ODP encourages Vertical growth and at many places FAR has been increased,” he said.
In one of the major highlights of this plan, several Ethnic community members from Taleigao have got the long overdue respite.
Sardesai told reporters that the ethnic communities of Taleigao, which include SC, ST and Fishermen, have been given benefit of their land being converted to settlement zone.
