PANJIM:  The Department of Town and Country Planning (TCP) on Monday constituted a steering committee for bringing in necessary amendments to Goa Land Development and Buildings Construction Regulations 2010, which speaks about off-street parking space for vehicles across the state.
TCP, however, feels that the amendments would not help in resolving the parking crisis considering the fact that 85 percent of capital city already been developed. “Government is currently debating on the issue. We feel that there is need to have different strategy to provide parking for the vehicles, the number of which increases every year,” Chief Town Planner S T Puttaraju told Herald.
The committee has been asked to submit its proposal to government within next two months. It may be recalled that the Corporation of the City of Panaji in two different communications to TCP in June 2013 and January 2014 had sought amendment to the Goa Land Development and Buildings Construction Regulations 2010 considering the parking problems faced by the city.
Puttaraju confirmed about setting up of steering committee to look into the issue pertaining to the Land Development and Buildings Construction Regulations 2010. He admitted that there is urgent need to look into the parking woes.
The town planner opined the need to study and assess the current position of off-street parking spaces in the commercial and other residential complexes. He said that the local bodies like CCP need to carry out through assessment of the situation and suggest solutions.
