TCP Minister withdraws controversial TCP Amendment Bill; Vijai demands new RP

PORVORIM:  Town and Country Planning Minister Vishwajit Rane withdrew the controversial Goa Town and Country Planning (Amendment and Validation) Bill 2024, by moving a motion under Rule 166, on Monday.

The proposed bill gave overriding powers to the TCP, which did not require NOCs from other departments for conversion of land.

Meanwhile, speaking on TCP demands Fatorda MLA Vijai Sardesai said just like Section 16B was misused, so also Section 17(2) and 39(a) were misused and should be scrapped and a new Regional Plan should be enacted.  

Venzy Viegas demanded scraping of 3 mega projects –700 pools Bhutani Project and revert it to private forest; the Abhinandan Lodha project which he called the new conquerors of Goa and the DLF project at Reis Magos which has done hill cutting.
